Blessed is my Dusty Soul

Have you ever wondered where the soil on the surface of our Earth comes from? Or what makes soil different from dirt? Well, the answer is…..*slight pause*….I don’t know *shrugs*. It’s mystery like that. But I’ll tell you what I know for shizzles- is this phrase over here:

the soil

“…decomposing the keys of pianos and guitars, we are reaping what the tapping of feet have sown. As we flow out from the blows of trumpets and bounce from the strums of cellos, moving through sounds in which music was found – rooted in the belly, of The Soil.” – Portia Munama. This is the “Intro” from The Soil’s self-titled debut album.

And you probably wondering who or what on earth is The Soil, right *raises eyebrows*? Well, this is the talk of the three member a cappella group, hailing straight from the South. Yes baybee, I mean Soweto:-D.
The heavily Kasi talented trio

Much has been said and written about this group, but above all, it is their humble beginnings and MELODIOUS MUSIC that speaks for them.

Now, here’s a brief profile of The Soil. The group consists of two brothers Ntsika and Phindo Ngxanga and the Soweto-born only girl in the group Miss Buhle Mda. But the group name God Almighty as the fourth member :-‘).

Ntsika is the man :)....(LOL) with a sincere tenor and some high pitched dynamics

Phindo a.k.a Master P provides his out-of-this-world beat-box and his beautiful bass for songs.

Buhle provides the sweet and gentle alto and soprano.

Their music features a fused eclectic mix of different influences of soul, jazz, gospel, hip-hop and afro-jazz and voice techniques to create a genre which they have dubbed as “Kasi Soul” in a contemporary township kind of way. To create a disstict picture of into your mind, they use its rhythmic vocal bass line, with constant beat-boxing, which is a distinct feature in the music, while the remaining voices contribute to the choral and polyphonic accompaniment. Clear ? Good 😉

Yesterday :When I found heaven on earth, I meant to blog about it in the morning, but hey rather late than never right *shrugs*? Yeah. So, at the risk of sounding too deep, this new motivational jam by self renowned rapper Proverb featuring the Soil-titled Blessed and Highly Favored encircled the core of my heart and soul. Simply, it touched me because it verbalizes the truth. The collab itself explains the word Proverb straight from the Book of Life and from the Soil to the Heavens.
Enough yada-yada, please check it out for yourself and let me know what you think 😉

In all parts Kasi Nativist says: stay blessed & highly fav’d and keep listening to the sounds from the ground. Happy weekend :’D!!!
